Age-Grading Calculator
This age graded calculator applies published WMA (World Masters Athletics) age factors to your time and returns your age-graded percentage, performance level, and age-graded equivalent open time. It covers track events from 100m to 3000m (WMA 2015 factors) and road events from the 5K to the marathon (2025 road factors), for men and women ages 25-90, using exact per-age published factors rather than five-year approximations.

age-graded % = age standard ÷ your time × 100
(age standard = open standard ÷ WMA age factor — 2015 track / 2025 road tables)Enter your age and a race time above to see how your performance stacks up against the world standard for your age. Or start from an example:
Achievement levels are the widely cited WMA convention: 90%+ world class, 80%+ national, 70%+ regional, 60%+ local class. 100% means world-record level for your age — factor tables are revised periodically, so treat results near records as approximate.
How coaches use the age-grading calculator
Use this age grading calculator when you want to compare a masters performance to the open-class standard, convert a time into its age-graded equivalent, or answer 'what is a good age grade percentage' for an athlete or yourself.
- Convert a masters 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon into an age-graded percentage and equivalent open time.
- Compare athletes of different ages and sexes fairly in club championships or team time trials.
- Track whether a masters athlete is improving relative to their age standard, not just the clock.
- Set realistic goal times for older athletes using the WMA age standard for their event.
Age-Grading Calculator FAQ
An 80% age grade means your time is 80% of the best achievable performance for your age and sex in that event (the age standard). By the widely used WMA levels, 90%+ is world class, 80%+ is national class, 70%+ is regional class, and 60%+ is local class — so 80% is an excellent, national-class performance.
Your age-graded percentage is the age standard (open standard divided by your age factor) divided by your actual time. Your age-graded equivalent time is your actual time multiplied by the age factor, which is 1.0 in the open-class years and decreases with age — so a masters runner's equivalent time is faster than their actual time.
They are as accurate as their factor tables. This calculator uses exact published per-age WMA factors — the WMA 2015 track tables for 100m-3000m and the 2025 WMA/USATF road tables for 5K through marathon — not interpolated five-year approximations. Factors are statistical models of world-best performances, so treat results as a strong benchmark rather than a guarantee.
Most runners consider anything over 60% solid (local class) and over 70% strong (regional class). Dedicated competitive masters athletes often target 80%+ (national class), while 90%+ is world class and typically requires near-elite training history.
That is the whole point of age grading: the factor removes the effect of aging. Multiplying a 60-year-old's time by their age factor (well below 1.0) estimates what that same performance would have been worth in their open-class prime.
Track events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, Mile, 3000m) use the WMA 2015 factors as published in Howard Grubb's WMA lookup tables. Road events (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon) use the 2025 WMA/USATF road factors from the canonical Alan Lytton-Jones tables. The edition is shown with every result.
