Wind Correction Calculator
This wind correction calculator adjusts sprint, hurdle, long jump, and triple jump marks for wind using event-specific coefficients. Convert a recorded mark to neutral +0.0 m/s and estimated legal +2.0 m/s conditions.
Wind-Adjust Sprint or Jump Marks
m₀ = m + (c₀·w + c₁·w·m + c₂·w²)
(Moinat et al. 2018 coefficients for 100m: c₀= -0.0449, c₁= 0.009459, c₂= -0.0042 — a tailwind-aided time corrects slower)9.58 s
Coefficients are statistical averages per event — individual aerodynamics, altitude, and gusting all shift the real effect. Official results always stand as run; use corrections for fair comparisons, not record claims.
How coaches use the wind correction calculator
Use this wind correction calculator when comparing wind-aided or wind-affected sprint, hurdle, and horizontal jump marks.
- Convert a wind-aided 100m or 200m mark to neutral conditions.
- Estimate what a hurdle or jump result would look like at the legal +2.0 m/s limit.
- Add wind context to athlete comparison and meet review notes.
Wind Correction Calculator FAQ
It supports 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.
For record and qualifying purposes in these events, the usual legal assisting-wind limit is +2.0 m/s.
A tailwind-aided time corrects slower and a tailwind-aided jump corrects shorter, because the wind gave the athlete part of that mark. Headwind marks correct the other way. The per-event coefficients come from Moinat et al. (2018), a data-driven study of elite results.
